Raja Sansar Chand Katoch, a strong ruler, fought the Gorkhas but:

  • Gorkhas captured many of his territories
  • They surrounded Kangra Fort
  • The fort itself was strong and could not be taken

When the situation bacame serious, Sansar Chand asked Maharaja Ranjit Singh (Sikh ruler) for help.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh helped the hill ruler and defeated Gorkhas.

➤ Result:

  • Gorkhas were driven out of Kangra region
  • Sikhs gained control over Kangra Fort (1809)
  • This ended Gorkha domination in the area

⭐8. British vs Gorkha (Anglo-Gorkha War 1814-1816)

Gorkhas also clashed with the British.

Anglo-Gorkha War Details:

  • British fought against Gorkhas to stop their expansion
  • War ended with Treaty of Sugauli (1816)
  • Gorkhas lost huge territory
  • They were forced to leave Himachal permanently

This marked the final end of Gorkha rule in Himachal.
